How to: Set up Roku Streaming Player before installing the Aruvo app
🧾 Summary
This article explains how to set up a Roku streaming player for the Aruvo TV App.
🕐 When to Use This Guide
- You are preparing to install the Aruvo software on a smart TV running the Roku operating system.
- You’re onboarding a new TV in a unit
- You need help setting the Aruvo TV app as the default app on the TV
- You need to complete the required pre-setup steps before installing the Aruvo TV app on a Roku device.
✅ Requirements:
- TV set with an HDMI input port.
- Personal or business email address for Roku account setup (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Ymail, etc). You don't need to use any other generated email address.
- Wi-Fi username and password.
- Aruvo TV Subscription.
💡 Special Considerations:
Due to the architecture of the Roku OS, some features of Aruvo TV cannot work properly on Roku devices. Unfortunately, this is just how Roku OS is designed, and cannot be changed from the Aruvo side. For this reason, we recommend using another Smart TV platform when installing AruvoTV. Features that are confirmed not to work on Roku OS include:
- Locking the OS to only display Aruvo TV: Roku OS cannot be configured to disable the “Home” button or other app-specific buttons that open their native apps. Guests can easily close the Aruvo TV app by pressing these buttons on the Roku remote control.
- Defaulting to the AruvoTV Software app on boot: Similar to the above limitation, the Roku OS will always load its default “Home” screen when powered up, and cannot be set to open any apps by default - the user has to manually open the desired app.
- “Apps” and “Live TV” sections of Aruvo TV: Due to the architecture of Roku OS, none of its apps can be launched by or run under another app. Guests cannot select another app from within the Aruvo app.
- Future versions of Aruvo TV for Roku will enable customers to provide an “instructions” section detailing how guests can access various apps.
-
General Functionality: “Contact Us”, “Information”, and “Services” tabs, as well as the video and text formatting option in the “Welcome” tab, are currently in “coming soon” status. A compatibility update for these tabs is in progress, but we do not currently have an ETA for this release.
Important note:
For the best guest experience, we recommend using an external HDMI device such as (Chromecast/Onn/etc). This helps overcome certain limitations of the Roku OS and ensures smoother performance.
⚙️ Steps to Configure Roku TV Streaming Players for Aruvo TV Software:
Step 1: Plug the Roku device into the TV
- Roku devices connect to the TV using an HDMI cable or direct output on the device, which you'll need to plug into an available HDMI port on your TV.
- You'll also need to connect the Roku device to a power source, either through a USB port on your TV (if it provides sufficient power) or by using the included power adapter plugged into a wall outlet.
Step 2: Powering On and Input Selection
-
Turn on your TV and select the HDMI input corresponding to the Roku device.
- You should see the Roku logo on the TV screen as the device powers on.
-
If you have a Roku remote, you'll need to insert the batteries, and it should pair automatically.
Step 3: Wifi Setup
-
Follow the on-screen instructions on the Roku to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
- After selecting a language, the next screen will prompt you to set up your Wi-Fi. The available Wi-Fi networks at the property will be displayed on the TV screen.
- Use the Roku remote to select the network you want to connect to and enter the password.
- Once the TV gets connected to the Wi-Fi, the Roku will start downloading the software updates.
Step 4: Setup and Activation
-
The Roku will guide you through the setup process, with your Roku account (either creating a new one or signing in). You'll need to link your device by visiting a website (my.roku.com/signup) or scanning a QR code on the screen using your smartphone or a computer.
- Once you’ve signed in or created your Roku account (using any email account if you prefer), give your device a name and select the location where your TV is located. Read and agree to the Terms of Use by checking the box, then click Continue.
- Select the channels to add to your home screen (Netflix, Spotify, Prime, Aruvo TV), then click on continue. Once you click on continue, the setup will be completed.
- Thereafter, enter the Roku login credentials on the TV, and click "Continue" to proceed.
- An email will be sent to the specified email address. Click the link and follow the steps to activate the new Roku device.
-
Once you click on the "Activate Device" link in your email, the app update will begin on your TV, and the setup will be done.

Ensure that "Guest Mode" is DISABLED on your Roku device! Roku OS does not permit selecting available apps in Guest Mode, and this will interfere with the functionality of the Aruvo TV Software app.
