🕐 When to Use This Guide
Follow the steps in this article when:
- You need to control Roku Live TV visibility on guest Smart TVs
- You need to configure a Roku-specific guide layout showcasing up to 4 curated streaming apps.
- You're required to create guest-friendly instructional steps to navigate Roku Live TV channels.
- You're required to customize text, colors, and backgrounds to match your property branding.
-
You need to maintain consistency with Live TV presentation across all other Aruvo-supported platforms.
✅ Before You Begin
Ensure you have the following ready to ensure an easy setup:
- Compatible Roku TV or Streaming Player device - See our full list of compatible TV and device models here.
- Personal or business email address for Roku account setup (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Ymail, etc)
- Wi-Fi network name and password
- Aruvo account - If you have not set up your account yet, follow the steps in this article to create and configure your account.
- Aruvo TV app should be installed to Roku TV and setup completed
⚠️ Special Considerations
Due to the architecture of the Roku OS, an app (like a live TV streaming app) cannot be launched by another app (like Aruvo). Instead, you can configure up to 4 streaming apps with easy instructions to guide your guests on how to access them, then switch back to the Aruvo TV app screen afterwards.
When guests select the Live TV section, they’ll see a clear heading and subheading (unless the subheading option is turned off). The section displays up to four streaming app logos in a horizontal layout and Step-by-step instructions (Steps 1–4) are shown below to guide guests to access apps.
⚙️ Step-by-Step Setup
Setting up your Live TV Apps for Roku TV
Navigate to the "TV" menu on the left side of the Aruvo portal, then click on the "Live TV" tab. From there, slide the platform selector to the "Roku TV" option to configure Live TV apps for Roku.
1. Live TV Screen Settings for Roku: This section controls Roku Live TV activation and menu naming.
-
Find the "Display 'Live TV' on Smart TV" option
-
Toggle to ON
⚠️ IMPORTANT: When this option is set to "OFF", Roku Live TV is hidden from guests, and a note is displayed: “Note: Currently, the Live TV section is disabled and will not be visible on the Smart TV.”
-
The Menu Title will be displayed on your Smart TV menu. Please ensure it does not exceed the 16-character limit. By default title would be Live TV.
2. Manage Custom Instruction Layout: This section lets you design the Roku Live TV instructional experience for guests. Because Roku works differently, this layout visually guides guests through the process of accessing live content and returning to your Aruvo TV home screen.
- How it works: You can display up to 4 Roku apps as visual tiles. Each tile starts with a “+” icon. You can click “+” to select from a predefined Roku app list.
-
Only the Aruvo channel is pre-configured, the remaining 3 channels can be selected manually. You can Replace, Re-order and Remove apps as needed. You can select a maximum of 4 apps.
- The Roku Channel (Pre-selected and mandatory, can’t be deleted)
- Pluto TV
- Tubi
- Red Bull TV
- Plex
- You can click on Edit icon to delete the selected channels or drag and drop to reorder them.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Apps are not automatically installed on the Roku device when they are selected in your Aruvo configuration! Apps must be installed from the Roku Channel Store before they can be launched.
-
You can setup Heading and Subheading for Live TV Apps. For example
Heading: “Your Live TV Guide”
Subheading: “Enjoy Live TV through the Roku Channel. Return anytime to Aruvo TV for guest info and services.” -
You can use up to four short, numbered steps to guide guests through Roku navigation to access live TV app content and returning to your Aruvo TV home screen. For example:
Step 1: “Press the Home button on your Roku remote.”
Step 2: “Use the right arrow key to find the Roku Channel app.”
Step 3: “Press the OK button to open the Roku Channel app.”
Step 4: “Press the Home button again and reopen the Aruvo TV app for guest services.” -
After all settings have been changed, click on the "Save" to make changes to all Roku settings, or click the "Cancel" button to disregard all changes and restore the last saved configuration.
3. Edit Apps Display Settings for Roku: This section allows you to visually customize the Roku Live TV Guide — fonts, sizes, and background colors — aligning with your property’s brand.
-
You can change Color, Font Family, Style and Size of Heading Text, Subheading Text , Heading/Subheading Background Color, Instruction Panel Settings, Screen Background Color
-
Once all the settings have been updated, you can click on Live preview updates that would show all elements: heading, subheading, instructions, and app tiles.
