How to: Install Aruvo on Roku TV
🧾Summary
This article details the steps to install the Aruvo TV app on a smart TV or HDMI streaming device using the Roku operating system.
🕐 When to Use This Guide
Follow the steps in this article when:
- You're installing the Aruvo TV app on a smart TV with the Roku TV operating system built in
- You're installing Aruvo TV on a Roku Streaming Player device
✅ Before You Begin
Ensure you have the following ready to ensure an easy setup:
- Compatible Roku TV or Streaming Player device - See our full list of compatible TV and device models here.
- Personal or business email address for Roku account setup (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Ymail, etc)
- Wi-Fi network name and password
- Aruvo account - If you have not set up your account yet, follow the steps in this article to create and configure your account.
⚠️ Special Considerations
Due to the architecture of the Roku OS, some features of Aruvo TV cannot work properly on Roku devices. Unfortunately, this is just how Roku OS is designed, and cannot be changed from the Aruvo side. For this reason, we recommend using another smart TV platform when installing Aruvo. Some Aruvo TV features that are confirmed not to work on Roku OS include:
- Locking the OS to only display Aruvo TV: Roku OS cannot be configured to disable the “Home” button, or other app-specific buttons that open their native apps. Guests can easily close the Aruvo TV app by pressing these buttons on the Roku remote control.
- Defaulting to Aruvo TV app on boot: Similar to the above limitation, the Roku OS will always load its default “Home” screen when powered up, and cannot be set to open any apps by default - the user has to manually open the desired app.
- “Apps” and “Live TV” sections of Aruvo TV will not work on Roku OS: Due to the architecture of Roku OS, none of its apps can be launched by or run under another app. Guests cannot select an app from the Aruvo app.
- General Functionality: “Contact Us”, “Information”, and “Services” tabs, as well as the video and text formatting option in the “Welcome” tab, are currently in “coming soon” status. A compatibility update for these tabs is in progress, but we do not currently have an ETA for this release.
- Future versions of Aruvo TV for Roku will enable customers to provide an “instructions” section detailing how guests can access various apps.
- For a comparison of features supported by each smart TV platform, see Aruvo TV Software: Smart TV Platform Comparison.
Tip: For the best guest experience, we recommend using an external HDMI device (such as Onn/Fire Stick/etc) to run the Aruvo TV app on Roku TVs. This allows the alternate platform to overcome the above-noted limitations of the Roku OS and ensures optimum performance.
⚙️ Step-by-Step Setup
1. Setting up your Roku TV or Streaming Player:
- Roku TVs will have the Roku OS pre-installed, and minimal configuration should be needed.
- If you're using a Roku Streaming Player device, follow the steps in this article to configure your TV settings before installing the Aruvo app: How to: Set up Roku Streaming Player before installing the Aruvo app
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Ensure that "Guest Mode" is DISABLED on your Roku device! Roku OS does not permit selecting available apps in Guest Mode, and this will interfere with the functionality of the Aruvo TV app.
2. Install the Aruvo TV app
- From the main menu on the Roku Home screen, scroll up or down to select "Streaming Store" and click the "OK" button.
- Select the "Search" option under Recommended Apps.
- Search for "Aruvo" to locate the Aruvo app, then select the app from the listed results.
- Click the "OK" button to select the "Aruvo" app and open the app details screen. From here, click the "Add app" button to install Aruvo.
- Click the "Back" or "Home" button to return to the Roku home screen.
3. Update Aruvo app location in the list (optional but recommended)
By default, newly added apps in Roku OS will appear at the end of the app list, but we recommend moving it to the top to make it easy to launch! Follow these steps to move the app:
- From the "Home" menu, scroll to the end/bottom of the Roku app list and select the Aruvo app.
- Click the "*" (options) button on the Roku remote to open the options for the Aruvo app.
- Select the "Move app" option to manually position the Aruvo app, or select "Move app to top" to automatically set Aruvo TV as the first app in the list.
4. Link smart TV to your property listing
To finish the setup, just launch the Aruvo app! For the first property that you set up on your Aruvo account, the TV will link automatically. For each additional property, Aruvo TV will prompt you to enter a Linking Code. Follow the steps in this article to link your TV to the matching property listing: How to: Link Aruvo TV to property
